The book of 2 Timothy is the second of two pastoral letters that are included in the New Testament of the Bible that were written by the apostle Paul to his assistant Timothy. It was written around a.d. 66-67 while Paul was languishing in Nero's dungeon, chained and near the end of his life. Paul is lonely and longs for Timothy's company as a fellow Christian worker and one who has been like a son to him. He's concerned about Nero's persecution of the churches and asks Timothy to persevere while standing firm for the gospel. |
